Public funding for an AI project: what really exists in France in 2026
Bpifrance, regions, chambers of commerce, training: the French schemes that can fund an AI project in an SME or mid-sized company, and the traps to avoid.
Public funding for AI exists in France, but the schemes are many, they keep changing, and not all of them fund what you might think. Here is what exists in 2026, and how to avoid disappointment.
What public funding covers
Three main families:
- Awareness, often free: self-assessment tools, use-case platforms, webinars.
- Diagnostics and consulting, co-funded: an expert examines your company and proposes a roadmap.
- Training your teams, funded by the skills operators (OPCO).
Funding for the build itself — the agent put into service — is rarer.
The main schemes
Bpifrance and the "Osez l’IA" plan
The national "Osez l’IA" plan, launched in July 2025 and stepped up in June 2026, offers free awareness tools and a use-case platform. Bpifrance adds co-funded support, including the Diag Data IA: about eight days of expertise, for SMEs and mid-sized companies with 10 to 2,000 employees, at least one million euros in turnover and more than one year of existence. It is carried out by experts approved by Bpifrance.
The regions
Several French regions fund part of a consulting service, a study or a proof of concept, often for certain sectors — industry and services to industry, for example. Budgets open and close according to funding rounds.
Chambers of commerce and industry
The CCIs offer free digital support, delivered by their advisers. For a first step, that is sometimes all you need.
Training: the OPCOs
Employee training can be largely funded by your OPCO, provided the training organisation is Qualiopi-certified. Without this certification, no funding is possible, whatever the price.
The four traps to avoid
- Signing before applying. Many schemes must be applied for before the project starts. A service already under way can no longer be funded.
- Forgetting approval. Some schemes only accept providers approved by the funder. Ask your provider before committing.
- Relying on a rate. Scales change often. Do not build your budget on a percentage read six months ago.
- Preparing a pointless application. Depending on your size, sector or project, no scheme may apply. Better to know early.
What we do
When your project can be funded, we prepare the application with you: identifying the right scheme, checking its conditions and timetable, gathering the documents, writing the application. It is included in the Business Process Audit and in the Company Brain. For other offers, ask us during the Flash Diagnostic: if a scheme may apply, we will tell you. The details: Public funding.
No funding is guaranteed: the decision belongs to the funder, and the application is made in your company’s name.

Frequently asked questions
Can the building of an AI agent be funded, not just a diagnostic?
It is rarer. Most schemes fund awareness, diagnostics or consulting. Some regional grants also cover a proof of concept. Check case by case, at the time of the project.
Are the funding rates fixed?
No. Scales change several times a year — the Diag Data IA’s changed at least three times in 2026. Ask Bpifrance or your region at the time of the project.
My company is small: can I access these schemes?
Some require a minimum turnover or headcount. Free tools and support from chambers of commerce remain open to the smallest companies.
